Hey Guys! It's Mike from The Geek Pub. I'm a maker! From Woodworking to Electronics, I make weekend projects that you can make yourself! It's a learning experience for everyone.
I offer regular videos featuring woodworking, electronics, and metalworking that you can watch and then build yourself. Our How-To and learning videos are generally just a starting place for you to make your own design modifications and build them yourself! Mike dives into topics from woodworking, to metalworking, to home improvement. No project is too big or too small.
NOTICE: Some of our videos (such as our PVC air-powered series) can be extremely dangerous and require adult supervision. All projects are for informational purposes only. You assume all risks. Always wear eye protection.
If you build one of our projects, make a video and post it as a video response to our video! We want to see it, and we want our viewers to see it!

So I guess this channel is dead now?
Definitely on hiatus for a while. Try TimeRiftArcade. We're doing a lot over there.
I'm curious as to why MDF is used and not plywood? Wouldn't plywood be stronger and lighter?
You inverted the wires VCC and GND at 1:20. The red wire should be plugged into the right pin. At the end of the video you will see the correct wiring.
I have a retropi setup on a rpi4 8mb and seam to have fat fingered the admin Password so I am unable to properly run updates on my raspian Linux and desktop. What paths and files should I save to my 1TB hard drive before reinstalling raspian fresh? My idea is to copy them back again so I don't have to reinstall and reconfigure everything again.
I've been (over)thinking a build for my basement area - part ham shack, part electronics hobby work station, part work from home, part book shelf. I was already planning a second garage build like this for a workbench on lockable heavy casters but with an mdf top. Hadn't even considered it for inside use but now that I see yours - absolutely!!
great video
Nice (although I don't understand the PETSCII reference). Wish I could afford to order a custom made cabinet (or even a few of those machines in the shop!) Seems a solid and meticulous build. I've grown to love panels tilted back to almost horizontal (so your hands can rest on them) and if the monitor is also tilted back a bit more, creates a natural angle at which to stand up and play (for a teenager or adult). The angles here puts it somewhere in between sitting on a chair and standing up - many cabinets were made this way for bar stools and arched backs, ouch!
I have used the socket trick many a time in woodwork ..
The machinery and the energy used to produce a single shutter already pays for an entire set ready made from the shop. People definitely need to learn about basic cost X profit math
As a carpenter, and an electronics geek I truly love this content.
Did you release your software code to control the r2d2 using rpi?
yes. Well done! Want to see more videos like this. Ideally about how to test various things in audio circuits, synths, pre-amps, tape machines, digital outboard effects from the 80s and 90s and the like. That would be amazing. Also great to know would be what kind of (affordable) Oscilloscope (perhaps with some model suggestions) will have the right set of features for specific kind of testing. In my case audio equipment.
Where can I get the little square USB speakers??
After watching this video I feel compelled to comment. Thank you for allowing me to purchase your plans, my arcade is sweet. Thanks for the time you put into the instructional videos to inspire me to get the plans and plan my build.
need a linked version for multiplayer at a bar..
Ima do this with a longboard. Just need the parts
Is there a volume control and/or separate speakers?
This reminds me of the time I made a real Polybius cabinet, the easter egg was that you could break out of Polybius with the right key combo and play a bunch of other correctly licensed games.
Thats pretty good
incredible job on the cabinet!
Great informative video!
Fantastic work! Another channel to sub to. WOOHOO!
Buenas noches una consulta soy de peru podrias ayudarme para saber que tipo de sistema es el juego y donde lo compraste gracias me suscribi a su canal
Thank you for liberating this arcade machine. God bless you.
Pro Tip: if you really want that cabinet to last, put coat of PVA glue on every square millimeter of MDF, let dry throughly, sand smooth, and repeat a second time. Wood glue works. Do this BEFORE installing any hardware. It will prevent the MDF from absorbing moisture or soaking up water in the event of a minor flood.
We find that a good oil-based primer and paint does a great job. Its certainly much less effort. What you mention definitely works, but it takes a lot of time, and then the wood has to be sanded and finished again. And if you don't apply it to all four sides it really won't make any substantial difference.
Damn that thing looks clean. Very good work
I was able to follow directions and have both my micro sd card and usb working. I have my USB stick configured with the folders and roms. There were a few roms that I put on the USB stick that don't work and I tried to delete them and they still stay on retropie system for some reason. I noticed I deleted the game roms on the USB stick but they're still there. Thoughts?
Could have salvaged the copier for spare parts.
Nope. We tried to give it away to three different recyclers and they would not take it. One said they would, but we'd need to pay $500.
what restrictor gates do your joystick come with? Don't see it on your website.
followed the steps used the usb enables usb roms. tried retropi-mount nothing.
Noooo
Flipping sweet built!!!
If I have to be stranded on a desert island it's with these guys
I which way are CRTs better for arcade machines than a modern LCD?
I like this channel because I learn stuff about electronics and using powertools but also because Mike is so damn sexy!
u are a bad/ass arcade game builder man
The "profit enhancer" exists on pretty much every label maker now - regardless of brand. You found the workaround: print all your labels without cutting and then manually cut later.
Also, apparently, you and David both have nice voices. I like to listen to you guys talking and working while I am working. I get entertainment and get smarter.
The amount of entitled people on the internet is infinite, it would seem.
Why use an Amiga for a cabinet?
Why not use an Amiga for a cabinet?
@@TheGeekPub Nothing wrong with it. it's cool for sure, I was just asking. Seemed slightly more impractical because of it's age but you guys repair these things so no trouble I guess?
@Aspiring-Hobo The Amiga is far newer than most of the arcades we run.
@@TheGeekPub I suppose I was not seeing the full picture
Wow, really great work and craftsmanship. I also love the cablework. Really a really nice and clean machine. Outside and on the inside!
What website did you use to add the games?
Do you think you will be doing any more videos?
Time Rift Arcade Channel.
@@TheGeekPub thank you
Mike, we need a 2024 update!
Thanks, @TheGeekPub! Bought your plans, parts, etc. Put together an amazing table for my girlfriend. She's wanted a Ms PacMan for a long time. Nostalgia from her days of going to Pizza Hut and playing as a child. It turned out REALLY well (and gave me an excuse to buy some new tools). A couple of modifications for anyone interested. The USB speakers were no longer available, so I ended up using some BOSS B653 car speakers and a Kinter K3118. For the monitor I had read that the Dell 2007FPB 20 inch was a great monitor for an application like this. Bought one on ebay. Otherwise followed the plans closely. The one mistake I may fix is I should have used the glass as the outline for the top rather than the printed plans. The glass I bought is sized a bit bigger. That's on me for not measuring twice. 🙂 Girlfriend loves it. You made me a hero!
ok does the flash drive need to be fat 32 or exfat? because it doesnt' copy anything for me.
Maybe put a QR code on it with a user manual for the arcade machine version.
What can use instead of a drill press?
GREAT VIDEO! ps your voice sounds exactly like the 8 bit guy
You know they are brothers, right?
14:53 I love how there's a line of clamps on the edge of the exit door!
